No Vegging Here
Thursday, July 3rd, 2008RS alumni,
In the days and weeks to follow, Adam and I will be posting resources here for you to check out…things like blogs we frequent, music and sermons and preachers we have on our ipods, books we’re reading, books we think you should read, ideas for studying your Bible, etc. We hope that these will help you in your continued fight for joy in God.
Let me encourage you to not “check out” and “relax” for a few days because you feel like “you’ve earned it”. No vegging here. This will be the surest way to kill and cool what God is doing in your heart. Rather, keep pushing. Keep taking ground.
Here’s a few ideas for you to engage in today and this week to continue stoking the fire of affections for God…

- Process with your parents. If you don’t have parents, process with a mentor or adult you respect. Take them through your notebook, read them your journal, share with them things God’s Word challenged you on, encouraged you with, and called you to change. Share, share, share. Trust me, this will be huge. Make it happen.
- Clean out your ipod…look through your playlist and ask this question…”Does it help me love and cherish and treasure Jesus Christ more?“ If the answer is “no”, you know what to do.
- Apply the above test to magazines, tv shows, internet sites, movies, and anything else you deem appropriate. Be ruthless. If your right hand causes you to love Jesus less…
- Replace the things you “cut off” with Bible-saturated, gospel-centered, Jesus-exalting stuff...we’ll be helping you with that list in days to come.
- Read and study and memorize your Bible. Start today. Set a time, find a place, get a plan. Don’t attempt eating the elephant in one day. Set reasonable goals. Memorize 1 verse a week, and in a month, you’ll have four done! Sound too tough? What if I offered you $1000 for every verse…
- Read the books we gave you. Make it a goal…have them read by the end of the summer. Count the chapters, count the days, and go for it. Leaders are readers, and readers are leaders…
There’s a start. Love you all. I’ve loved all the emails you’ve sent me and face-book stuff going on. Keep it up! Look forward to staying connected here through the site, and we’ll continue praying for you in the days and weeks to come.
