What kind of student should come to RockSolid?
Rock Solid is designed as a Christian leadership equipping event for 16-20 year olds. As with any discipleship experience, spiritually humble and teachable students gain the most. We get most excited about working with Christian students who want to live for the glory of God in their generation and are hungry to grow and learn how to better fulfill God’s calling on their life - in whichever vocational path they choose.
Where is the Conference Held?
In 2009, Rock Solid will be held on the campus of George Fox University in Newberg, OR. For the past 3 years we have utilized the Multnomah Bible College and Biblical Seminary campus in Portland, OR. The Christian college campus setting provides a wonderful collegiate-level learning environment. The Greater Portland area provides wonderful urban and cultural mission opportunities for the “Operation Portland” segment of RS. We are exploring future locations for Rock Solid, even in other cities of the country, as the Lord directs.
Can a student come who is younger than 16?
While we get this request often, rarely do we make exceptions. We have found the pace and intensity of the conference to be at such a level that even those students within the age-range are pushed to capacity. We want to honor those students who are of age and give them priority.
What if I can’t afford it?
We do not want finances to be the determining factor. While we encourage families to have the student pay their own tuition, we also encourage a partnership in accomplishing this goal…doing extra jobs around the house, talking with people in your church who would consider sponsoring you or paying you for work around their home, sending out support letters, etc. Be creative! This is a significant investment in your future and God’s kingdom…get others on board to help! Also feel free to contact us as there are limited scholarships available.
What is the staff like? What is the criteria to be a RS staff member?
The RockSolid staff is made up of mostly RS alumni who have demonstrated an ongoing and deepening hunger for God, depth of character, integrity of faith and maturity. All have a passion to invest their lives in RS attendees through the facilitation of their respective small groups. The staff undergoes specific training before the week to prepare them to serve the students to the best of their abilities. Most are upper-end undergrads, working singles or married.
How big is the conference?
We are committed to keeping RockSolid custom-tailored to meet the individual needs of each RS student attending. Therefore, we currently limit the RS registration to approx. 120 students, attempting to have equal balance of both guys and girls.
